Dr. Pertti J. Huuskonen is Principal Scientist with the Visual Communications laboratory of Nokia Research Center, Tampere, Finland. He dreams up visions and steers research programs in the areas of context awareness, ubiquitous computing, and interaction in mobile systems. His background is in artificial intelligence, with focus on advanced user interfaces for industrial applications. He holds a doctorate in computer science from the University of Oulu. The Visual Communications laboratory in Nokia Research Center explores and develops new application, user interface and terminal concepts, focusing on mobile visual communications, as well as the video and image coding, processing, and transmission solutions these new systems will require. The laboratory also develops solutions for utilizing emerging display technologies in future terminals. This research is conducted from the end-user perspective, where the aim is to optimize usability. The laboratory has research teams in Finland, in USA, in China and in Japan.
